Scholarship on offer at Bendigo Telco closes soon
There’s less than a week until applications close for Bendigo Community Telco’s scholarship program.
Bendigo Community Telco partnered with Bendigo and Adelaide Bank Community Bank® to launch one of Australia’s largest university scholarship programs, and the local Telco will offer one scholarship to a first-time student whose circumstances might otherwise preclude them from accepting their university course offer.
Bendigo Community Telco Chief Executive Officer, Phil Lazenby, said this was a great opportunity for a local student to further their tertiary education.
“Our Community Bank® partners have had proven success with this program in previous years, and we felt this was an excellent opportunity for our company to get on board and further reinforce our commitment to building a stronger community,” Mr Lazenby said.
“Family circumstances such as illness, unemployment, debt, drought and natural disasters can have a significant impact on a young person’s ability to further their education, so we are pleased to offer the necessary funding to give them that kick start they need.” Mr Lazenby continued.
The Bendigo Community Telco Scholarship will support a disadvantaged local student with tertiary study-related costs. The successful applicant will initially receive funding for one year, and depending on academic performance, the Scholarship may be renewed to assist the second year of study.
Applications will close at 5pm (AEDST) Friday 27 January 2012 and will be assessed in early 2012. For more information about the 2012 Scholarships, visit bendigotelco.com.au/Communityprojects.aspx

Bendigo Community Telco Chairman, Rob Hunt, said he was very pleased to have been part of the journey over the past 11 years. “Bendigo Community Telco has continued its investment program in establishing new capabilities and new infrastructure to enable the company to enhance the range of services and facilities it can provide to its customers. The signing of the Bank’s major WAN contract has again demonstrated what our local company is capable of in terms of creativity and innovation.”
Bendigo Bank’s Managing Director, Mike Hirst said: “Bendigo Community Telco is playing a leading role in developing the telecommunications capability essential for the development of regional Australia. A national data network solution was the next important step and as one of regional Australia’s leading businesses, the Bank is pleased to source those services through Bendigo Community Telco.”
